STEVENS POINT — Portage County fantasy fans are preparing their costumes and mock-armaments for the Portage County Public Library Game of Thrones Night on April 5. The event will have participants scouring the library’s “Westeros” frontier, allowing them to enjoy show-themed snacks, games and more, all in anticipation of the series final season, debuting later this coming April.
“It celebrates not only an exceptional television series but also reading the exceptional books the series was based upon,” said library staff member Eddie Glade in an exclusive interview with the Gazette.
The staff has organized a “Secret Spider” game and other library-wide activities for guests during the evening of intrigue and fantasy-driven action.
“In addition to Secret Spider, in which players are secretly assigned roles and have to deduce which player is the traitor, we will have another Mafia-style deduction, bluffing game,” Glade explained excitedly.
“There will also be a scavenger hunt in which participants will help the character Arya Stark complete her list — fans will know what that means.”
Games and snacks are not the only things visitors will enjoy. A green screen and replica Iron Throne are available to guests for photo sessions. Library staff member John Currier, who also crafts guitars, created the throne out of wood and plastic swords.
It is an impressive feat of ingenuity. One lucky winner will even get to take home the Iron Throne. Faculty utilized funds from the Library Foundation to purchase four hand-drawn, signed maps created by the renowned German artist Klaradox. Participants will have a chance to win the maps throughout the night.
“We ordered signed copies from the artist, and he generously offered a discount as well as permission to use his art for the event,” Glade said.
Ready your might and prepare for the Game of Thrones Night. Don’t miss your chance to take home Portage County’s very own Iron Throne.
Costumes are encouraged for this 18 plus event held on April 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Send your “Game of Thrones” costumes and event gear to the Portage County Gazette to share with the community.
