STEVENS POINT — A former SPASH graduate is at the top of his game, as Luke Daniels has been selected to play for the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps out of Rosemont, Ill.
Daniels is currently a sophomore at UW-Milwaukee studying Music Education and was a Visual Technician for the Oak Creek High School 2018 State Champion marching band last fall. Playing the mellophone, Daniels’ journey started when he purchased one from eBay four years ago. He is self-taught in both the mellophone, as well as the technicalities of band marching.
Daniels has a list of accomplishments, from marching and directing as drum major for SPASH to conducting a ballad in his senior year. He soon auditioned for the Cavaliers, who are considered one of the most successful drum and bugle corps in history, winning 20 national championships. out of 500 fellow musicians, Daniels was selected to a spot available to only 150 members.
” Luke is an amazing young man,” said mother Michelle Daniels. “Sometimes my husband and I look around to see where his parents are because we can’t believe this motivated and gifted child is ours.”
Now at the “summit” of his marching career, Daniels starts the process of fundraising. Accordin gto his parents, it’s what their son was always meant to do.
“We told him to do what he loves and he will never have to work a day in his life.” said Michelle Daniels.
