STEVENS POINT — Community leaders gathered to celebrate the recognition of the second weekend in April as “Trivia Weekend” on Friday, April 12.

This took place at the P.J. Jacobs parking lot shortly after the Trivia Parade.

Governor Tony Evers officially denoted this weekend as Trivia Weekend for the State of Wisconsin in recognition of the contest’s 50th year. This was done so at the request of Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point).

“It starts a significant precedent for every Governor moving forward to recognize the cultural and economic impact of trivia, not just in our community, but across the state.” said Shankland to the many in attendance. “I’m really thrilled to present this proclamation from the Governor.”

UW-Stevens Point Chancellor Bernie Patterson was on hand to join the recognition.

“We are very proud of this organization, of trivia, 90FM; all the work that goes into this,” said Patterson. “I travel a lot and I frequently hear people say to me ‘That’s where you do the trivia isn’t it?'”

Wiza spoke shortly after receiving the proclamation from Rep. Shankland.

“You can’t say enough about what trivia does, and I’ve talked to a few different media outlets and different people over the course of the week every single year about what trivia means — it’s this. This is what it means every year: friendship, and getting together,” said Wiza on trivia’s 50th anniversary.

“We’re looking forward to fifty more.”

Make sure to join in the trivia fun and tune into 90FM all weekend to follow the contest. To check out the Trivia Parade and proclamation photo album, check out the Portage County Gazette facebook page at http://facebook.com/pcgazette
