Gallery Q to Showcase the Creation of Art
For the City Times
STEVENS POINT — From May 7 through June 27, Gallery Q will display “Creation Stories” featuring painter Dan Sivek, in company with 10 other Q artists. Their stories of inspiration and creation will be on display for the education and enjoyment of the public.
The opening reception for this show will be on May 10 from 5 to 7 pm. This is free and open to the public, light snacks and beverages will be provided, and attendees will get to meet and converse with the artists.
Alongside the artwork in this show will be photographs and descriptions that highlight the steps, inspirations, and struggles that come with making original art.
“I want to give visitors insight into what goes on in the artists’ studios and in their minds when making art,” said Sivek. “Each artist’s creation is unique; each creation story is different. I hope these stories add to the viewers’ appreciation for the beautiful, finished pieces of original art they’re seeing.”
Throughout the show’s run, there will be “brown-bag sessions” that will include demonstrations and intimate discussions. Guests are encouraged to buy lunch from the farmers’ market and downtown restaurants and bring it into the gallery and then participate in the session. More details will be posted on Gallery Q’s social media and website.
Sivek works mainly in oil paint and pastels. For the first time, he will also offer high quality, limited edition reproductions of some of his paintings. Sivek will display time-lapse photos of paintings and share short stories about challenges and triumphs.
The other artists participating in this show are fiber artist Mary Therese Murphy, quilter Pat Gaska, photographer Robert Rosen, mixed media artists Erin Prais-Hintz and Mary Lee Reineking, wood artisans Graham Coulson and Mike Jagielo, encaustic painter Jessie Fritsch, printmaker Justine Pawelski, and basket maker Elise Thornton. Published poet and Q volunteer, Jane Osypowski, also created poetry for the show.
