Former Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) standouts Sam and Joey Hauser announced Monday, April 15, that they will transfer from Marquette University at the end of this semester and continue their college basketball careers elsewhere.

A 6-8 guard/forward, Sam Hauser was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection this season as a junior for the Marquette men’s basketball team after he averaged 14.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game and led the conference in free-throw percentage (91.9 percent). He will have one season of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season.

A 6-9 forward, Joey Hauser was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team this season as a redshirt freshman after he led the conference in three-point percentage (44.3 percent) and ranked third on Marquette in scoring (9.8 points per game), and second in rebounding (5.3 rebounds per game) and assists (2.5 per game). He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season.

Marquette finished 24-10 this season after an 83-64 loss to 12th-seeded Murray State in the first round of the NCAA Division 1 Tournament, which was the Golden Eagles’ sixth loss in seven games after a 23-4 start to the season.

Complete coverage will appear in this week’s issue of The Gazette.
