STEVENS POINT — District 9 Alder Mary McComb left her parting remarks at city council on Monday, April 15.
McComb served on council since 2015, and lost her bid for re-election to challenger Polly Dalton on April 2.
“It’s been a good run. I ran for city council to contribute to the betterment of my hometown and I’ve done exactly that, said McComb. “I thank the residents in District 9, and throughout the area that supported me, and appreciated what I brought to the role of Alder.”
McComb hopes her push in advocating for neighborhood and transportation improvements, and city developments continue. However, she echoed the sentiment of Oberstadt in the sometimes harsh remarks made by residents towards elected officials.
“An Alder is not a parrot that merely echoes the most consistent voices. Truth does not belong to those who shout the loudest. And it certainly does not belong to those who insult their elected officials with ugly, mean, personal comments.” said McComb.
“I started this position because I love my hometown. I leave it loving my hometown less,” said McComb. “Not because I lost an election, but because of the trolling that has taken place online. I could not and cannot believe that this is my hometown.”
McComb thanked her constituents, city staff, and her fellow council members.
Thank you for all you did as an alder person. I was not able to vote for you because I live out of the city. Rest assured I would have if I could have. I love Stevens Point. We have lived in & around Point for many years. I’m sorry you are leaving with some unhappy memories. Take care.
