STEVENS POINT — County officials unanimously approved the construction of a multi-purpose lodge at Standing Rocks on Tuesday, April 16.
The lodge would be located near the cross-country, mountain bike, and dis golf parking lot in order to be used by all three groups. The center is slated to become the main access trail point for outdoor recreation in the Standing Rocks area.
The Friends of Standing Rocks Park have partnered with Portage County to put $81,000 towards the total project. Grundwaldt & Halverson will provide the design services, with Ability Builders out of Amherst to construct the lodge.
With a total allocation of $350,000, the project cost came in over budget at $468,292. However, the county will take extra funds from the Collins Park road paving project, which was under-budgeted, giving the county an extra $55,000 to put towards the lodge. The total cost will come in at $118,292.
