Current Road Closures in Portage County

PORTAGE COUNTY — Below is a press release submitted by sheriff officials regarding recent road closures due to flooding in Portage County.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Portage County. The rising water has affected numerous roads throughout our area and conditions are likely to change throughout the day. Please use caution when driving and do not drive around road closure barriers.
The following is a list of known road closures in Portage County (this list may change):
- Town of Carson:
o Deer Lane between County M and County Trunk C o Elm Road north between County O and Daves Lane o River Road is closed from County E to the Boat Landing
- Town of Plover:
o Park Drive and River Drive – Southbound from Park Drive
- Town of Eau Pleine:
o River Road from Maple Road to Dam Road o Mayflower Road from County E to River Road
- Town of Linwood
o Blue Heron Lane closed at West River Drive W
- Highway 66 at County HH
- Highway 66 at River View Avenue
- County Highway HH Bridge over WI River is closed
- W. Shoreland Drive to the north is closed
- WIS 66 from Rocky Run Road to West Gates Drive, which includes the intersection at WIS 66 and County HH in Portage County
- Westbound County HH at Business 51 in Portage County
- County HH has soft closures in place with barricades for local access only between Business 51 and WIS 66. Local traffic can cross County HH bridge to get to their homes.
Detour Information: WIS 66 eastbound take WIS 13/34 northbound to Wood County P (Old 10) eastbound. Continue to Portage County HH (Old 10) eastbound, back to WIS 66 eastbound. Westbound is reverse. Signs are posted.
FLOOD PRECAUTIONS
- IF YOU ARE UNDER A FLOOD WARNING, MAKE CERTAIN YOUR SHELTER IS SAFE
- Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!
–Water only six inches deep can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your
vehicle away.
- Stay off bridges over fast- moving water.
- Determine how best to protect yourself based on the type of flooding.
– Evacuate if told to do so. o Move to higher ground or a higher floor.
Portage County Management has been in contact with National Weather Service and Dam Operators along the Wisconsin River. The Wisconsin River near Stevens Point appears to have crested and water flow should slowly decrease through the middle of next week. The River will remain dangerous while the flow is elevated, please use extreme caution.
