STEVENS POINT — Point Special just got a little more special this April. Mayor Mike Wiza proclaimed April 25 as Point Special Day in the City of Stevens Point, in honor of Stevens Point Brewery and their long history in the community.
Over 100 participating bars and establishments in the Portage County area will be offering cans of Point Special beer for $1 as part of the newly proclaimed day dedicated to the craft brew.
“To celebrate Point Special Day, everyone can enjoy 12-ounce cans of Point Special Lager for only $1 from 4 p.m . to 6 p.m. on April 25 at local establishments,” explained Stevens Point Brewery Director of Marketing Julie Birrenkott.
Birrenkott and brewery staff were looking for a way to commemorate their classic brew after polishing Point Special’s taste in 2018 to align it more with the original recipe.
“We refined our brewing methods, operating procedures, and lab testing to move Point Special closer to the original flavor,” Birrenkott said. “We think it’s clearer, crisper, perfectly carbonated, and 100% balanced.”
Staff decided to approach the city about organizing an event.
“We reached out to Mayor Mike Wiza and he was happy to commemorate this special day,” Birrenkott added.
Brewery staff plans to celebrate Point Special Day every April 25, according to Birrenkott — marking the day as a new Stevens Point tradition. The proclamation praised Stevens Point Brewery for their enduring aid as a community partner, serving troops during the Civil War and their prestige in the craft beverage market.
“This is a day to recognize a beer that has been a part of our city’s history for more than 100 years,” Birrenkott said. “It is humbling to hear the many stories we’ve listened to throughout the years from people in the community. Point Special Beer brings back fun memories, the good times — and there are more fun memories and good times to be had!”
