STEVENS POINT — An alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will talk about global forest conservation at a lecture on campus next week.
Robert Simeone of Sylvania Forestry LLC in Land O’ Lakes, Wis., will present “New Concepts in Sustainable Forest Management” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in room 320 of the Trainer Natural Resources Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Simeone will describe his experiences confronting global natural forest losses, a brief history of forest science, global forest trends, conservation strategies, wilderness and the indigenous mind and new forestry within an ecological context.
A 1977 graduate of UW-Stevens Point, Simeone has spent the last 35 years working the forests of South America and the Northwoods of Wisconsin. His decades of work with indigenous communities in the Amazonian regions of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador led him to becoming one of the six founders of the Forest Stewardship Council (www.fsc.org).
