Central Wisconsin Men’s Golf League opens season

The Central Wisconsin Men’s Golf League opened play for the 2019 season, with 13-teams playing at Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca Wednesday, April 24.

This year the league is divided into two divisions, with the Stricker and Kelly groups playing round-robin schedules throughout the season.

In week one in the Stricker Division, matches showed Rookies Sports Bar beating Big Apple Bagels, Jordan Bar over Hilltop Too, Hacker Backers downing Point After/Cozy Kitchen and Rookies in a second match beating Midwest Hardware.

In the Kelly Division, Hilltop Pub & Grill beat Two Harps Pub, Backwoods Bar over Partners Pub and Matero’s defeated Badger Heating/Rice’s Paint.

Individually, Tom Habel of Rookies had the best gross round, shooting a one under par 69. Scott Frazier of the Hacker Backers shot a 74, Charlie Spaar of Jordan Bar recorded at 75, Keith Ringberg of Rookies a 76, Jim Berg of Hilltop Too and Jim Brummer of Hacker Backers had 77s and Tom Shafranski of Midwest Hardware recorded a 78.

Low net rounds included Habel and Frazier with 68s, Scott Gile of Point After/Cozy Kitchen a 70, and 71s from Spaar, Ringberg and Todd Prutz of Big Apple Bagels.

Winning skins were Spaar, Paul Woyak, Barry Thompson, Gile, Todd Rice, Shafranski, George Klish and Scott Krueger.

This Wednesday, May 1, the league will head to Glacier Wood Golf Club in Iola.
