STEVENS POINT — Mykeerah Zarazua has been selected as new alderperson for the Fourth District, replacing former alder Heidi Oberstadt.
Zarazua won out against two other applicants by a vote of 6-4 after a first round of voting resulted in a 5-5 tie between Zarazua and candidate Will Stites. Third candidate Bryan Worzella received no votes.
Zarazua is a Shelter Advocate for CAP Services Family Crisis Center. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UW-Stevens Point; and is working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
“I recognize that as an alder I won’t be able to make everyone happy but I know it will be my job to represent the needs of my constituents the best I can,” said Zarazua in her opening remarks to council members. “I believe my strongest skill is being able to research a topic and being able to make educated decisions and also be able to provide education to the constituents to help them understand the issues.”
Zarazua was sworn in immediately following the special council meeting to select the new Alder.
