Central Rivers Farmshed plant sale announced

STEVENS POINT — Garden gurus and beginners alike, join Central Rivers Farmshed’s Growing Collective for the 7th annual Plant Sale on Memorial Day Weekend.
The sale is open to Farmshed members on Wednesday, May 22 5-7pm and to the public Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24th from 4-7pm and Saturday, May 25th from 10-3pm in Farmshed’s greenhouse (1220 Briggs Ct. Stevens Point).
Over 5000 annual vegetable and herb plant starts- including unique and heirloom varieties as well as local favorites- will be for sale. Vegetable and herb types include: Slicing, paste and cherry tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, summer and winter squash, hot and sweet peppers, cabbage, kohlrabi, cauliflower, broccoli, eggplant, edible flowers and a variety of herbs.
The Growing Collective, who is organizing the plant sale, is a group of community growers that work together to start seeds for their own gardens as well as for the annual sale. Members can join the Collective at their desired level. Each level corresponds with a certain small fee, volunteer hour requirement and the number of plants they can take home. The group is now over 60 members strong.
In addition to the plants grown by the Growing Collective, the sale will feature native plants, compost bins from Recycling connections, a selection of gardening items and soils from Hsu’s growing supply and natural liquid fish-based fertilizer from Big Springs Fish Company.
Farmshed members are invited to shop during a pre-sale on Wednesday, May 22 from 5-7pm. In addition to the pre-sale, Farmshed member perks include: special rates for events, workshops and merchandise, early-bird event ticket sales & news releases, access to the Growing Collective, reduced kitchen rental rates and a discounted entrance fee to the Midwest Renewable Energy Association’s Energy Fair.
