STEVENS POINT — Residents are welcomed to celebrate the 90’s this weekend, and flannel shirts, stone-washed jeans, frosted tips, and combat boots are encouraged.
On Friday, May 10, Point Pub Crawls will be hosting the “90’s Bar Bash”, which will feature an homage to one of the most expressive decades in our time. However, this isn’t just a reason for Generation-X and Millennials to wear their favorite grunge, boy band and nu-metal t-shirts while throwing back a few — ten percent of the proceeds on the night will go towards local charities.
Five percent will be donated towards The Stevens Point Alliance’s “Rock The Dock Stevens Point” which seeks to put a public dock in on the Wisconsin River, near the Pfifner Park bandshell. The other five percent will go towards the Portage County Humane Society.
“The 90’s were fun, care-free, and authentic, and everybody feels a stinging nostalgia for Tamagotchis and spiked hair,” said Event Organizer Steven Macherey. “I just want everyone to have that feeling back just for a night.”
Participants can expect loads of drink specials, as well as prizes and discounts from local area businesses. Local bars and taverns taking part in the pub crawl include: Graffiti’s Sports Pub, Buffy’s Lampoon, Sugar Bar, Steve-o’s, Fusion, The Hub – Stevens Point, Brickhause Tavern, The Cabin, The Outfit, Joe’s Bar, and Top Hat Bar. Other local businesses involved include: Green Thumb Alternatives, Terminator Outdoors, CPR Cell Phone Repair Stevens Point, and Polito’s Pizza.
“I want to thank the bars and the community, and everyone’s willingness to jump on board for something so exciting.” said Macherey. “It allows me to use my skills that I learned at UWSP for Communication, Digital Media and Marketing, and Event Coordination.”
Patrons can reserve their tickets and wristband and “passport” for drink specials and prizes by visiting https://www.pointpubcrawls.com/events/90s-bar-bash
“It’s the one night you can go back to the bar and listen to Dave Matthews unironically.” joked Macherey.
The event kicks off at 9PM outside of Graffiti’s Sports Pub for official check-in, located at 912 Main St.
Thanks for the interview Joe! Super excited to host this pub crawl, and do more down the line 🙂
