STEVENS POINT — Students, staff and faculty celebrated UW-Stevens Point’s annual “Day of Giving” (D.O.G.) on Tuesday, May 7, and would go on to raise over $140,000 in the process.

For 24 hours, students and faculty were encouraged to give to others as part of UWSP’s “Day of Giving”. The day offered a variety of fundraising activities for students, staff and faculty.

They were encouraged to show off their “Pointer Pride” through donations, acts of kindness, and social media. Matching gifts were made, which include various donations from hundreds of faculty members and foundation board members.

In the halls of the Dreyfus University Center a large “selfie was taken which included 173 people. For every person in the photo, UWSP Vice Chancellor Al Thompson donated $1. UWSP Chancellor Bernie Patterson donated $1 for every selfie taken in Pointer gear and posted on social media.

In total, 350 selfies were taken across the area, and 250 gifts were received across 39 states towards the day.

Students and faculty gathered for a giant “selfie” to celebrate UWSP’s “Day of Giving” on Tuesday, May 7. University staff, students, and alumni were encouraged to give and donate to others to show their UWSP pride for 24 hours. (Joe Bachman Photo)
