STEVENS POINT — For SPASH Senior Saralyn Carcy, she will soon go from being a Panther to a Blue Devil.
After achieving a fourth year academic award, as well as winning 2019 Student of the Year for English, Carcy now has her sights set on Durham, NC, as she will attend Duke University in the fall.
Carcy, who played on SPASH’s rugby team, initially didn’t plan to attend Duke, but applied as a long shot. However, it can be said that ‘you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take’.
“I definitely did not set out to attend Duke,” said Carcy. “I had applied early decision as a long shot, and fully intended to attend Marquette or the University of Minnesota.”
However, Carcy now looks forward from the switch from red and black to navy blue and white.
“When I received my acceptance letter I was ecstatic and knew that it was the place for me.” said Carcy.
Carcy will go for a double major in Public Policy and Political Science. She one day hopes to find a position within government, but not as a politician. Carcy throws back her successes to her support system.
“I attribute my success to my supportive family and my faith.”
