STEVENS POINT — The University Store, located on the UWSP campus, will be operated by Barnes and Noble College, effective July 1.
This comes from an approval by the UW Board of Regents last week, as they entered a contract with the subsidiary of Barnes and Noble to run the store. According to Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Al Thompson in an email, the move is for the purpose of reducing costs, generating additional revenue, and ensure a sustainable model for the retail store.
Textbook rental inventory and rental fees will be determined by the university, however, Barnes and Noble will manage it. Barnes and Noble operates the UW-Eau Claire store, and others across the state. According to Thompson, Barnes and Noble plans to hire students to run the store.
Current plans will see the store close on June 28, then close for two weeks for the transition into Barnes and Noble College. With this operation, the university will receive an annual commission from the store. The store will continue to offer UW-Stevens Point apparel, as well as an array of school supplies, gifts, and other items.
The University Store is located at 1015 Reserve St.
