Obituary: John T. Schmidt
John T. Schmidt age 77, of Custer, passed away Monday June 17, 2019 at St. Michaels Hospital.
Per his wishes no public services will be held. Shuda Funeral Service of Stevens Point & Plover is assisting the family.
John was born August 1, 1941 in Stevens Point, the son of Elmer and Marian (Brennan) Schmidt. He attended local schools and after graduating, moved to Milwaukee. He entered the United States Army July 22, 1960 and was honorably discharged July 15, 1963 from Fort Hamilton, NY.
After serving his country, he returned to the area and began a career at the River Division Paper Mill. He retired from the mill in 2002. John married Kathryn (Paukert) Rutta on October 28, 1980 in Dubuque, IA. The couple settled in Custer. They enjoyed riding motorcycles together and their trips to Canada and to the Western United States on their bikes.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn and three children: Sandra (Tony) Codajelli, Minneapolis; Rita Turzynski, Wisconsin Rapids; Rene (Jim) Lepinski, Stevens Point. Six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
