Celebrating 20 years: Time Capsules: A look back

As we celebrate 20 years, we take a look at some of the stories that have graced the pages of our publication.

10 years ago: July 3, 2009

Ellie Landowski, 16, and Kayly Everman, 16, are two of 36 Boys & Girls Club artists from around the United States whose work has been chosen to appear in the 2009 National Fine Arts Exhibit.

Plover-based Judges Inc. (Judges), a healthcare linen company, recently poured the foundation for an 11,000 square-foot addition to its existing facility. Currently Judges employs 50 individuals and anticipates hiring more to meet the growing demands of healthcare customers.
Portage County grew by just 426 people 2007 to 2008, according to new population estimates from the United States Census Bureau. That’s six-tenths of one percent.

20 years ago: July 2, 1999

Channing Wiersema, M.D., a board certified family practitioner, has joined the medical staff of Plover Family Practice, an affiliate of Ministry Health Care.

The Southside Business Association of Stevens Point is disbanding and turning its funds over to the Community Foundation of Portage County for a trust fund to maintain the steam locomotive in the Southside Business District.

The YMCA’s $3.9 million building expansion got under way with an official ground-breaking ceremony on June 23.
