Local business offers youth laser tag leagues

STEVENS POINT – Laser warriors, get your game faces ready. The second wave of Putt -N- Play laser tag leagues kicks off this September.
The league, which started last year, gives teams of five a chance to fight their way through Portage County’s only outdoor laser tag course while climbing the ranks to become the top laser-slinging outfit.

“The laser tag is outdoors,” explained Aloha Seitz, owner of Putt -N- Play along with her husband, Will. “It is not your typical laser tag. It is ‘Call of Duty’ style, so it has the feel of playing ‘in’ a video game except you get a real workout instead of just your thumbs.”

The leagues are split up into two separate age groups: the Silly Sergeants is bracketed for kids ages 12 and up and the Kiddy Commandos is geared for children ages 8-11.

The league gives teams of five a chance to fight their way through Portage County’s only outdoor laser tag course.

Seitz noted that the age limit dropped for the Silly Sergeants this year to allow younger laser enthusiasts the chance to participate.

“The age range was 14 plus, this year we are changing the age range to 12 plus. Young to middle school age (students) participated and had a blast,” she said.

While the progressive and tech-driven “sport” may seem oddly video game-based to some, Seitz sees it as an engaging way to hone athletic skills.

“It’s a fun sport that develops a skill just like any other sport,” she explained. “Programs like this help get kids off their video games and engaged with their friends.”

The Silly Sergeants league last eight weeks and the Kiddy Commandos last six. Registration for the youth leagues ends on Aug. 23. Early bird discounts are available.

Individuals can request to join an existing team. Teams of less than five can still register.

For more information or to register, visit Putt -N- Play, 701 Second Street N, Stevens Point, or www.puttnplay.today
