STEVENS Point – Portage County summers can get hot, humid and muggy. Luckily for locals and visitors, the area is interspersed with unique swimming destinations. Whether you want a calm beach on the Plover River or a bustling downtown splash pad — the county has you covered. Here are four hotspots to help beat the summer heat.

Iverson Park

The Iverson Park beach offers guests a chance to cool off in the Plover River. This popular location gives beach-goers a great option to float, swim or wade in the refreshing river waters. The park’s NatureTreks program also offers visitors canoe, kayak, tube, and bike rental options. The beach is located at 4201 US Highway 10, Stevens Point.

Jordan County Park

The Jordan County Park beach is a tranquil destination with a small shoreline for residents and campers to enjoy. Located at 1903 County Highway Y, Stevens Point, the beach is fitted with a playground, grills and benches. This is the ideal location for an afternoon of outdoor summer fun. Camping options are also available.

Donald Copps Municipal Pool

The area’s city pool gives those wishing to get away from rivers and lakes a space to stay cool. The hotspot features a 162-foot water slide, two diving boards, concessions and more. Lifeguards are also on duty, making this a safe choice for families with young children. The pool is located at 2442 Sims Avenue, Stevens Point.

Fountain in Public Square

The Stevens Point Fountain in Public Square, 913 Main Street, Stevens Point, has helped children of all ages stay cool downtown for years. It may seem simple, but a refreshing leap through the chilly fountain waters can help beat the oppressive summer temperatures. Take the family downtown and cool off at the fountain after a trip down Main Street.
