PLOVER/WHITING — Coyotes have been spotted in the Plover-Whiting area, according to a local newsletter.

According to the July Whiting newsletter, sightings of coyotes have been reported in the Village of Whiting, east of Post Road. This also includes some areas in the Village of Plover.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, unless the coyote displays aggressive behavior, there is minimal danger to humans and pets. While no action is being taken at this time for any coyote population reduction, the DNR has tips for potential coyote interactions.

Coyote Tips (from Wisconsin DNR)

-Do not feed coyotes. Store all garbage in secured containers.
-Remove bird feeders and outside pet food containers.
-Keep an eye on all pets and do not let them run free in coyote-populated areas.
-Clear wood and brush piles as they are potential cover for coyotes.
-Do not leave small children unattended.
-Loud noises, throwing rocks, and turning on lights are ways to reinforce coyotes’ natural fear of humans.
-Consider fencing your yard.
