STEVENS POINT — A local man charged for a May armed robbery appeared in court today.

On May 28, police were called to a report of an armed robbery at an apartment complex on the 600 block of Second St. North. According to the criminal complaint, 19-year-old Jared Clendenning was in possession of a long gun after entering the apartment of a former female acquaintance.

Clendenning allegedly ordered the female occupant to “give him his stuff back” or else he would “use his glock”. According to the woman, Clendenning demanded back 20 carts of THC, which she did not want in the first place.

In addition, the suspect would steal up to $1,000 of clothes, lingerie, shoes, and other items from the victim.

On May 29, at 3:22 a.m., Clendenning returned to the apartment with a 17-year-old friend, who proceeded to violently attack another man, and a friend of the victim, in the apartment. Clendenning and the youth fled the scene before police arrival.

Clendenning was eventually apprehended and was released on $1,000 cash bond in June. He will seek counsel as his initial appearance was adjourned until July 29. His cash bond is continued.

Clendenning faces up to 40 years imprisonment if convicted.
