STEVENS POINT — The city is seeing increased revenue from kiosk parking, according to recent numbers.
Treasurer Corey Ladick presented numbers for the latest parking figures in terms of revenue. In the second year, the city made $114,475 from parking kiosks.
This comes with the expansion of kiosks to new areas, and more convenient ways to pay. According to Ladick, 58 percent of drivers now pay through the parking smartphone app.
Out of 17 city kiosks at a cost of $245 per kiosk in maintenance, Ladick states that while most are performing well, others are losing money. Kiosks surrounding the campus core are exceeding expectations, while those on the outskirts are underperforming.
As a result, Ladick would like to remove three kiosks in those areas.
Ladick is also advocating for the possibility of paying for a parking permits by license plate in kiosk areas that aren’t performing as well, mainly in areas of Maria Drive and Illinois Avenue.
Overnight Parking
Ladick also presented his findings on overnight parking. He found that the city had an increase in revenue from overnight parking permits, which leads to the possibility of monthly, or even annual parking permits.
It is important to note that the suggested changes of expanding permit parking and removing kiosks are only recommendations at the time. Any action will be discussed further down the line.
