CWRA Stars to Legends Tour at halfway-point, with Weinfurter leading the way
The Central Wisconsin Racing Association (CWRA) Stars to Legends Tour as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner has reached the halfway point of its season, with five events remaining, and it’s the veteran driver Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids leading the way in the season-point standings.
Weinfurter, who was the Champion of the Tour in 2018, has a slight 383-370 lead over another veteran driver, Mark Mackesy of Wausau, heading into the next event Thursday, July 18, at State Park Speedway in Wausau.
The event has added significance, as it will be the Father Grubba book signing of his latest published work, 67.
The book chronicles the seasons of Dick Trickle and Tom Reffner, who each won 67 Features in a single season. Trickle pulled off the fete in 1972 behind the wheel of a 1970 Ford Mustang, and Reffner accomplished it in 1975, piloting a 1974 AMC Javelin.
Numerous racers from days gone by will be at the event, along with a number of race cars and replicas that participated at that time.
Drivers that will be CWRA Tour racing on the night include Harley Jankowski of Sparta, who is third in the point standings and is also the top Rookie driver thus far; fourth place Chad Butz of Green Bay, and fifth place Darek Gress of Neillsville, along with up to 15 others.
Travis Volm of Mosinee, who has picked up two wins at State Park recently, will also be present and looking for his second CWRA Tour win.
There will be a full program of racing on the night, with the CWRA Touring stars receiving top billing, along with the Advance Auto Parts, Pure Stocks, Rock Star Min-Stocks and the Snap-on Mini-Mods.
Pit gates for the night’s racing open at 3:30 p.m., with fan gates opening at 4:30 p.m., qualifying at 6 p.m. and racing set for 7 p.m.
State Park Speedway is located 2.3 miles West of I-39, at exit 190, on County Road NN. The track phone number is 715-212-9006.
