UW-Stevens Point theatre and dance season announced

STEVENS POINT — Take a “Journey to Unexpected Destinations” as the Theatre and Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point brings new and familiar productions to the stage for the 2019-2020 season.
Season tickets for returning subscribers are now on sale, and individual show tickets and new season ticket package sales will begin Monday, Aug. 12. Offered at the Noel Fine Arts Center (NFAC), 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point, the eight-show season includes:
· “The Spiritualist,” a staged reading – Sept. 26-29, Room 221
Rosemary Dunn communicates with the spirits of famous dead composers, offering them a chance to complete their unfinished symphonies. The Sept. 26 reading will be offered at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield, 2000 W. 5th St., Marshfield.
· “The Spitfire Grill” – Oct. 11-13 and 16-19, Studio Theatre
In this musical, a parolee finds a new life at a small-town Wisconsin diner where she revives the place by holding an essay contest to raffle off its old grill.
· “Clown Bar” – Nov. 8-10 and 14-16, Jenkins Theatre
Long ago, Happy left the Clown Bar and organized clown crime to work for the good guys. Will he get sucked back into his old life when his brother is murdered? Ages 13 and older.
· “Afterimages 2019” – Dec. 6-8 and 11-13, Studio Theatre
An annual student choreographed directed, designed and produced dance concert.
· “The Six Fingered Woman,” a staged reading – Feb. 6-9, location TBA
Written by a current UW-Stevens Point drama major, the play tells of a Hollywood makeup artist who becomes entangled in a relationship with the person whose injuries she is using as a model for her next horror movie. Mature audiences only. The Feb. 6 reading will be held at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau, 518 S. 7th Ave., Wausau.
· “Sense and Sensibility” – Feb. 28-29 and March 1, 4-7, Studio Theatre
A drama created from Jane Austen’s classic novel follows the Dashwood sisters as they navigate life after the death of their father.
· “Mamma Mia!” – April 3-5 and 8-11, Jenkins Theatre
Featuring songs by ABBA, the musical centers on ‘70s girl Donna raising a ‘90s era daughter who wants her dad to walk her down the aisle. If only her mother would tell her who he is!
· “Danstage 2020” – May 3-5 and 8-10, Studio Theatre
The annual dance concert features new works by faculty members and a renowned guest choreographer.

Tickets for the full season of six shows (excluding staged readings) are $135 for adults, $129 for seniors, university faculty or staff, and $85 for youth. A package of the two Jenkins Theatre shows is $48 for adults, $46 for seniors, faculty or staff and $31 for youth. The four Studio Theatre shows are $94 for adults, $90 for seniors, faculty or staff and $60 for youth.
Individual tickets for full shows are $26 for adults, $23 for seniors, faculty or staff, $16 for youth, and $10 for each staged reading. UW-Stevens Point students may purchase discounted tickets in advance for $10 or $7 the day of the show, and for $15 in advance and $10 day of for “Mamma Mia!”.
In addition, the First Nighters program offers theatergoers dinner and a show on the opening Friday evenings for five of the shows.
