LAKE WAUSAU — It is a little known fact that Wisconsin touts the title of “Show Ski Capital of the World,” and the Central Wisconsin Water Ski Show Team, better known as the Water Walkers, are carrying out the state’s tradition of water showmanship.

The team, which formed in 1997, is known for its high-octane aquatic performances, but they are building a reputation for their charitable work in central Wisconsin. The group is hosting their seventh annual fundraising ski show for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight on Lake Wausau Aug. 18 at 6 p.m.

“We support the Never Forgotten Honor Flight with an annual fundraising show for them,” explained Janelle Gokey, Water Walkers show director.

The Central Wisconsin Water Ski Show Team, better known as the Water Walkers, was formed in 1997.

The yearly show to support veterans is one of many on their summer schedule. The group offers free performances every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on Lake DuBay and every Sunday at 6 p.m. on Lake Wausau. Their last show takes place on Sept. 1.

“We pride ourselves by being able to perform free family-friendly water ski shows every week on Lake DuBay and Lake Wausau,” Gokey said. “Seeing a Water Walker ski show has become something that many attend week after week. The shows also attract tourists from all over the United States and other countries. It’s part of what makes central Wisconsin a great place to live.”
