Thousands remain without power after Saturday’s brutal storm

STEVENS POINT — As the work week starts for many, thousands are still without power in the Portage County area.
Due to the damage of the storms, Governor Tony Evers declared a State of Emergency on Sunday. As of Monday morning, thousands across the state and Portage County still remain without power.
According to their website, WPS has restored power to 131,000 customers. Crews from other Midwest utility companies have been assisting with rebuilding necessary power grids to restore power to residents as quickly as possible.
According to the most recent outage map, 4,258 customers are without power in Stevens Point, 2,228 in Plover/Whiting, and 1,006 in Almond-Bancroft.
WPS officials have stated that they haven’t seen outages like this in decades. Crews are working diligently around the clock to make the restoration process as quick as possible.
