Plover softball teams win State Titles

A total of three Plover Fastptich Softball teams brought home State Titles, as the 16U, 12U and 10U teams each won a State Championship in Wausau Thursday through Sunday, July 11-14.

The Plover Fastpitch 16U team won the State Championship at the USA Softball Wisconsin Class B Fastpitch State Tournament in Wausau July 11-14, after it went 6-1 during the four-day tournament that included 18 teams from throughout Wisconsin.

During its State Title run, the Plover 16U team had a .515 batting average, .541 on-base percentage, .737 slugging percentage, and averaged 8.9 runs and 12.6 hits per game.

The team finished with a 3.50 ERA, with 57 strikeouts in seven games, and a 3.56 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Plover 16 U team members are Ashlyn Chandler, Jenna Eilers, Haley Raflik, Erica Pronschinske, Hannah Melum, Jenna Hoerter, Kennedy VanderLoop, Jaden Jones, Maddie Kvatek, Sami Miller and Alyssa Standifer. The team is guided by head coach Todd VanderLoop and assistant coaches John Jones and Shawn Eilers.

The Plover 12U Nationals battled through a field of 22 teams and went 8-1 to win the USA Softball Wisconsin State Title.

During the course of the four-day tournament, the Plover 12U Nationals had a come-from-behind, walk-off win on Friday, then had to play three games back-to-back-to-back on Championship Sunday, as they beat New Berlin twice in Championship Games by scores of 8-2 and 15-6 to win the State Title.

Head coach Chris Brooks credited the mental toughness of his team and physical conditioning as they battled hot weather through Sunday.

The Plover 12U Nationals will look to carry their momentum forward as they head to Rapid City, S.D., for the USA Softball Northern Nationals Thursday through Sunday, July 25-28.

Plover 12U Nationals team members are Delilah Abundiz, Shelby Brooks, Kiki Hetzel, Mikah Keller, Messina Meddaugh, Maren Sauvageau, Addison Simonson, Saylor Timmerman, Emma Witkowski, Sommer Wright and Kaylin Yenter. The team is coached by Chris Brooks, Chad Sauvageau, Matt Simonson and Toby Witkowski.

The Plover Nationals 10U Fastpitch team won the USA Softball Class B State Championship, after it went unbeaten at the State Tournament.

The team has been playing together for a few years now and is 19-1 this season, with its only loss to a Class A team from Illinois/Iowa in the Battle of the Borders Tournament in early June.

Plover 10U Nationals team members are Ember Akers, Brooklyn Berrens, Peyton Brooks, Ashley Gagas, Katie Kornowski, Ryland Mayek, Aaliyah Newby, Oakley Omernik, Addison Peskie, Emalee Petrick, Rory Salvesen and Ellie Strong. The team is guided by head coach Chad Newby and assistant coaches Travis Mayek, Dan Peskie and Nick Akers.

The Plover 10U Nationals have outscored their opponents 242-20 this season, and will travel to Mankato, Minn., for the Class B Northern Nationals Wednesday through Sunday, July 24-28, to compete for a National Championship.
