PORTAGE COUNTY — The number of customers affected by power outages in the area from last weekend’s devastating storm has now dropped below 2,000 in Portage County.
According to the most recent outage map from Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), less than 2,000 affected customers remain, primarily from the Plover area. As of 8:33 a.m., 1,206 customers remain without power. In Stevens Point that number is 404.
Alliant Energy is reporting no outages in their service areas for Portage County.
Number of affected customers in Almond, Bancroft, Amherst and Junction City are now in the dozens. The July 19-20 storm resulted in some of the worst power outages that many energy companies around the state has ever seen. Help has been called in from other utility companies to speed along the process of restoration.
WPS officials estimate that power will be restored to most customers by tonight.
