Old gear, new look: Interior renovations come to Holly Shoppe

STEVENS POINT – The Holly Shoppe has finished its summer renovations, and store volunteers are excited for guests to see their new look.

The group used displays from their former downtown location, which closed down last April, for the updates.

“When we had to close the store downtown, we had to move the display stuff,” said Holly Shoppe Director Donna Rossing. “We decided that we would bring in whatever we could use of that stuff to renovate the store here in the Lincoln Center.”

The Holly Shoppe, which opened in 1971, is operated entirely by volunteers and provides people ages 55 and over, and adults with disabilities, a location to stay active, be a part of the community, and sell their handmade crafts. Proceeds from sales fund craftspeople as an income supplement.

Shop volunteers did all of the renovation work in roughly a week, finishing the project on July 10. Rossing noted that the update came at almost no additional cost to the Holly Shop.

“This was stuff that was already paid for, so we didn’t have to add any money, we just moved things from one store to another,” Rossing said. “We didn’t have to take any money out of the treasury to do it.”

Staff said that the prior displays had been in the store for roughly 20 years and needed replacement. The new design offers more floor space while also providing ample show areas for the shop’s handmade goods and crafts.

The Holly Shoppe is located at 1519 Water St., Stevens Point. Hours of operation are Monday- Friday, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. For more information, call 715-346-1401.
