Midwest Hardware, Hilltop take lead into final stretch of golf league

The Central Wisconsin Men’s Golf League ventured to Glacier Wood Golf Course in Iola for play Wednesday July 24.

In the Stricker Division, Rookies Sports Bar defeated Midwest Hardware 4-0, while Midwest Hardware downed Point After/Cozy Kitchen 4-0, and Jordan Bar edged Big Apple Bagels 2.5-1.5.

In Kelly Division play, Hilltop Pub and Grill won a pair of matches, beating Midwest Hardware and also taking out Partners Pub 3-1. Two Harps Pub beat Materos 4-0, and Badger Heating/Rices Paint beat Backwoods Bar and Grill 3-1.

Heading into the home stretch in August, the standings show Midwest Hardware leading the Stricker Division, with Big Apple Bagels and Rookies Sports Bar close behind. They are followed by Hilltop Too and Jordan Bar, Point After/Cozy Kitchen and Hacker Backers.

In the Kelly Division, Hilltop Pub and Grill are up on Two Harps Pub and Materos, followed by Partners Pub, Badger Heating/Rice’s Paint and Backwoods Bar and Grill.

Top gross scores were turned in by Charlies Spaar with an even par 71, Tom Habel 72, Tom Shafranski 74 and Doug Bruder 75, while Keith Ringberg, Greg Klug, Jay Nordland and Chris Field all carded 77s, and Jim Brummer had a 78.

The best net scores came from Spaar and Terry Stanislawski with 65s, Klug 66, Steven Lane 68, Bruder and Habel 69, Shafranski and Nordland 70, and Rhody Mallick, Field, Tom Domaszek and Ringberg all at 71.

This week the league will head to Lake Arrowhead’s Lakes Course and play a team event, two best score Stableford format Wednesday, July 31.
