Portage County wanted man in custody

STEVENS POINT – A man who has remained on the Portage County Sheriff’s list for three years is in custody.
Jeremiah J. Button, 44, has had a warrant out for his arrest since 2016. According to Portage County Court records, Button was charged with first degree sexual assault of a child, possession of child pornography, and repeated sexual assault.
The criminal complaint stated that Portage County deputies were notified of the assaults in Jan. 2014, when they were informed by school staff in Waupaca that a student had spoke of the acts.
In Aug. 2016, a warrant was issued for Button’s arrest in Portage County Circuit Court.
On Aug. 9, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department received a tip that a man was living in a secluded area in Ringle. There deputies found Button and took him into custody.
