The CWRA Stars to Legends Tour as presented by Smiley’s Old Time Diner made an appearance at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells for the Marlin Walbeck Classic Saturday, Aug. 12, and it was Portage driver Mike Lichtfeld and rain that ended up as the victors of the two scheduled 30-lap Features.

For Lichtfeld, it was his first 2019 Tour win, while a rain shower ended hopes for contesting the second Main event on the night.

Dakota Blakeslee of Rudolph and Lichtfeld made up the front row for the 30-lap Feature, with Lichtfeld moving into an early lead. A fast car and a great starting position had Lichtfeld building a 10 car length lead by the fifth lap.

Numerous battles behind Lichtfeld were taking place, with Jesse Bernhagen of Stevens Point making the most moves through the field from his 11th starting position in the 24-car field.

Putch Bentley of Iron River, Mich., moved into the second position on lap 10, but couldn’t make any headway in catching the fleet Lichtfeld.

The top Rookie candidate for 2019, Harley Jankowski of Sparta, started the race in the sixth spot, and moved up to the third position by the halfway point.

Lichtfeld continued to lead, stretching the margin to a 1/4 lap over Bentley with five laps remaining. He would stay there the rest of the way taking the win over Bentley in his best ever-Tour finish, followed by Jankowski, Jeff Weinfurter of Wisconsin Rapids, Bernhagen and Blakeslee.

With rain moving in just as the field lined up on the race track for the second 30 lapper, the cars were forced back to the pit area, but still hoping to get the race in.

The rain let up, but one attempt at track drying, with more rain moving in put an end to the night’s racing.

The CWRA Tour will be making its next appearance at the Marshfield Motor Speedway in Marshfield Saturday, Aug. 17. All the top point getters are entered for that race, with Jeff Weinfurter topping the list.
