STEVENS POINT – In August, Point area graduate, Joan Sirek, was elected as the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary National First Vice President.
“My fiancée is a veteran, and for 25 years we have attended AMVETS (American Veterans) conventions all over the United States,” Sirek explained. “I got involved in our local Auxiliary 1051, and in the State Auxiliary.
“I have held many positions on the local and department level. I am very active in our local auxiliary, volunteering, helping the community with food baskets and sponsoring blood drives, donating items for children, and promoting Americanism in the schools teaching them about their American heritage, and civics and citizenship.”
As vice president, Sirek will be responsible for the yearly membership program and promoting it.
“AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is made up of dedicated women whose primary focus revolves around our relationship to an individual who has honorably served our country in military service,” Sirek said in a statement. “As Auxiliary volunteers, we are helping, caring and sharing for our community and for those who are serving and have served our country. We join together as an organization to promote, support, and assist our parent organization AMVETS in achieving this goal.
“AMVETS is the only congressionally chartered veterans’ service organization whose membership is open to anyone who has honorably served in the U.S. Armed Forces since World War II.”
Sirek said that she plans to continue to build on her leadership role in the organization.
“Next year, I hope to be elected as the AMVETS Auxiliary president, and I will always continue to be active in my local, department, and on the national level,” she added.
“I’m proud to be an AMVETS Auxiliary member, to serve our veterans and the community.”
