STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Police Department has lost one of their own.
On Sept. 2, Stevens Point K-9 Luna suffered multiple seizures. After being evaluated by veterinarian, Dr. Sarah Novak at the Stevens Point Animal Hospital, Luna was transported to the Animal Referral Center Fox Valley.
Luna was unresponsive at about 11 p.m, and at approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 4, Luna took a turn for the worse. Luna died of multiple organ failure.
Luna was one of the Stevens Point Police Department’s first K-9 officers, beginning her career in April 2018 with K-9 Fala. Luna was a two-and-half-year-old Belgian Malinois trained in drug identification, tracking, and apprehension.
Luna lived with her handler, Lead Officer J.D. Ballew, and his family.
