Results from Week 3 of the high school football season Friday, Sept. 6.

In a matchup of unbeatens, the second-ranked Amherst High School football team (3-0) got out to a 21-0 lead against Wittenberg-Birnamwood in the first half and went on to a 42-0 win in its Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) Large opener at Community Stadium at Goerke Field in Stevens Point.

Amherst High School junior wide receiver Carmelo Aleman hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Lincoln Cullen on the Falcons’ first play from scrimmage in their 42-0 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood at Community Stadium at Goerke Field in Stevens Point Friday, Sept. 6. The 10th-ranked Almond-Bancroft High School football team also remained unbeaten this season, as it went on the road and won 42-0 at Menomonee Indian to start CWC Small play and improve to 3-0 overall.

Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) (0-3) lost 37-13 at Neenah (2-1), and Rosholt (2-1) lost 26-19 at Hurley (2-1) in a nonconference game.

Pacelli traveled to Pittsville for its CWC Small opener, where Pittsville led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter and 16-12 at halftime.

Pittsville (2-1) used a 20-6 advantage in the third quarter to go up 36-18, and went on to a 36-18 win.

Sophomore running back Brycen Cashin had 152 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 24 carries, and senior running back Henry Basala added 43 yards rushing on 10 carries for the Cardinals (1-2).

“Overall I thought we played a good first half, but had some miscues in the second half,” said Pacelli football head coach Drew Nelson. “We as coaches need to be better.

“The players played hard but too many mistakes and errors led to some easy scores for Pittsville,” he said. “Credit to them, they have a really good team.”
