Stevens Point man threatens to blow up home

STEVENS POINT – On Sept 7, at approximately 5:17 p.m., the Stevens Point Police Department was called to the 600 block of Washington Avenue.
A resident there stated that a neighbor, a 41-year-old Stevens Point man, indicated that he was going to “blow up his house.”
Officers made contact with the man and determined that the individual was planning to create an explosion using natural gas and an open flame.
The Stevens Point Fire Department and Wisconsin Public Service also responded to the scene as officers attempted to evacuate homes in a one block radius of the suspect’s residence.
The situation was mitigated and residents were allowed back in their homes around 6 p.m.
The suspect was detained and transported to a medical facility for mental health screening. Potential charges, to include attempted arson, may be submitted at a later time.
No injuries or property damage was sustained.
