STEVENS POINT – The Prime Water Anglers (PWA) have been making a splash in the Portage County fishing scene since their inception nearly 20 years ago. Even though the group has more than two decades of history behind them, they are still pumping out new projects at an impressive rate.  On top of hosting youth-based fishing academies, the group has been hard at work designing, building and installing new piers and docks around the Stevens Point area. Want to hit the water and reel in a big one? Check out these new fishing docks:

Bukolt Park dock

Bukolt Park handicap accessible pier

100 Bukolt Ave., Stevens Point

Officially opened to the public on June 3, this new dock offers a spacious casting area with a gorgeous panoramic landscape of the Wisconsin River. The cantilever pier is designed to stay in the water all year, regardless of water temperature, offering a nearly maintenance-free option for the city.

The fishing space was made possible by three groups: Jack and Linda Firkus; the 12 Apostles Musky Club; and Chris, Rob, and Daryl Ebert. The groups donated roughly $6,500 for the project.

If the new pier is too crowded, try the smaller piers built by the PWA around the lagoon area, installed during the summer of 2016.

Pfiffner Pioneer Park dock

The Pfiffner Park boat and fishing dock was quietly opened to the public during the first week of July. The dock area also has a kayak launch for recreational water access.

The 35-foot long dock offers boaters a new waterway with downtown access, and anglers a new spot to cast off in the Wisconsin River.  A “stage-two” could see the dock expanded with additional wings in the coming years, but plans are still in the early phases. The wings would provide more spaces for boats to dock.
