PLOVER – Community Development Administrator Ryan Kernosky gives his weekly update on the Plover community:

Kernosky is appointed to TCC

Kernosky will occupy a seat on the Portage County Transportation Coordinating Committee (TCC). The committee oversees aspects of public and alternative transportation. “It’s a county-wide committee,” Kernosky explained. “I think it’s always good to have an urban planner on that committee.”  The TCC will meet at the Transit Facility in Stevens Point, 2700 Week St., on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.

Post Road bridge closed

The Post Road bridge is closed due to construction until Sept. 23. Crews are pouring concrete and setting foundations in preparation for the full opening of the bridge later this fall. Commuters are advised to take the Water Street corridor to avoid the overpass.

Kernosky said the village hopes to see phase two plans of Post Road construction begin in 2020. The next phase will span from Tommys Turnpike to the Springville Pond area.

Existing issues with inlet piping for the Springville Pond development may slow down the beginning steps of phase two construction plans. The village is working with the Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to find a solution to the underground piping issue.

Hometown Pharmacy and other development

Kernosky noted that Plover’s new Hometown Pharmacy, located at 1600 American Drive, is open, adding that they have limited soft-launch hours until the week of Sept. 23. Village locals can now contact the pharmacy about transferring prescriptions or making new accounts.  With Hometown Pharmacy and many other developments setting roots in the village, Kernosky described 2019 as “our most active year in the last 20 years or so for construction and new value.  The village collectively saw around $36 million in new construction since August, up from 2017; $19 million, and 2018; $13 million.
