Stevens Point Horseshoe Club brings home 3 State Titles

The Stevens Point Horseshoe Club had a great showing Labor Day weekend, as 17 members participated in the 97th State Horseshoe Tournament in Eau Claire Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Jed Sowatzke, Ron Studinski and Ray Cayer of the Stevens Point Horseshoe Club each won a State Championship over the weekend.

Sowatzke was the Cadet Champion, Studinski won Class D, and Cayer won Class F.

Rich Brown placed second in Class F, and Az Schwerdtfeger placed second in the Cadet Girl Division.

Mona Lane (Class A Women), James Wicklander (Class C) and Fred Lane (Class E) each placed third.

The Stevens Point Horseshoe Club also had two members who received state awards.

Fred Lane received the President’s Award, in recognition for his dedication and promotion of horseshoes.

Jim Menzel received the Most Improved Award, after increasing his ringer percentage 19.48 percent in one year.
