Button pleads guilty

STEVENS POINT –A man who sat on the Portage County wanted list for three years has pleaded guilty in Portage County court.
According to court records, Jeremiah Button, 44, originally faced child pornography and sexual assault charges back in 2016; when out on bail, he failed to show for a plea hearing. On Aug. 9, officers found him hiding in a bunker near Ringle.
During a Sept. 20 plea hearing, Button was found guilty for two of the 13 charges against him – repeated sexual assault of the same child and possession of child pornography.
A sentencing date is set for Oct. 10, and Button is not eligible for bond.
