The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) volleyball program will host the ninth annual Diggin’ the Cause event at the SPASH Fieldhouse Thursday, Sept. 26.

The SPASH varsity volleyball team will take on Marshfield at 7:15 p.m. to conclude the event, which will benefit the Breast Care Fund at St. Michael’s Foundation.

This year’s Diggin the Cause will begin when the SPASH volleyball JV2 team plays at 4:15 p.m., with the JV and JV3 teams set to follow with games at 5:30 p.m.

Along with the volleyball games, the event also includes raffles, a silent auction and breast care information.

The goals for the event are to increase breast cancer awareness and to raise $10,000 for local breast cancer patients.

Last year, Diggin’ the Cause raised $12,054 to benefit the Angel Fund at St. Michael’s Foundation, which ensures that every woman, regardless of insurance or ability to pay, receives an annual screening for their breast care.

Over its first eight years, the event raised more than $97,000 to support local breast cancer patients.
