Pink Game for Cancer raises over $44K

For the City Times
STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point and Wabash College football teams came together for the 2019 Team Schierl & BSN Sports Pink Game for Cancer in mid-September. The event raised a total of $44,239.51 for local charities.
Held annually, and celebrating its 10th year, the Pink Game is a joint effort between Team Schierl, BSN Sports, the UWSP Pointers Football team and UWSP Athletics.
Each year the Pink Game raises money through corporate sponsorships, apparel sales, and a silent auction.
Throughout the week leading up to the game, “Pink Week” is supported by the UWSP students and faculty, as they participate with promotions on campus. The event is also recognized through the renaming of Fourth Avenue to PINK Street in the city of Stevens Point, and through a collaboration with the Youth Area Football league.
Charities benefitting from this year’s event include: the Breast Cancer Family Foundation, the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Marshfield, and the UWSP Be the Match and UWSP Love your Melon student organizations.
In addition to the overall event donation of $44,239.51, the WSP Pointers and Team Schierl worked with visiting team, Wabash College, to coordinate a donation to the American Cancer Society in Indianapolis in honor of a current member of the Wabash team battling cancer.
