STEVENS POINT – The Lions Club International  Foundation (LCIF) Wisconsin C1 District is holding their annual district convention at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, Oct. 11-12. Club leaders expect to see more than 1,000 guests gather for the convention.

“The location changes each year,” said Joe Massey, Stevens Point Evening Lions Club member. “It goes from city to city in the district to make it easier for lions.”

The previous event was held in Wausau, and saw well over 1,000 visitors, according to Massey. The conventions feature learning seminars on a wide variety of topics, informational booths, and programming on the group’s latest initiatives.

Massy noted that it’s not just existing club members that are encouraged to come.  “People can come and listen and learn,” Massey said.

The LCIF is always looking for more members who want to help support national and international aid programs.

The group was initially formed in 1916 in Indiana and has grown into a multi-faceted non-profit organization based on social welfare. The group works on humanitarian projects around the globe, and in local communities. The club has over 1.7 million active members worldwide.

Massey noted that the Lions have deep roots in Portage County. “The Stevens Point Lions have over 20 members, alone,” Massey said. “There should be quite the turnout at the convention.”

Guests will also be able to enjoy a live auction, food, and closing banquet. The Holiday Inn Convention Center is located at 1001 Amber Ave., Stevens Point.

The Stevens Point Evening Lions meet on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Rookies Sports Bar in Stevens Point, located at 3423 Church Street.
