SPASH girls golf wins Regional Title

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) girls golf team advanced to Sectionals after it won the WIAA Division 1 Regional at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The Panthers finished with a total of 350 to win the Regional Title over fellow Sectional qualifiers Tomah (355), Onalaska (379) and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln (420).

Senior Abby Nickel shot an 83 to earn medalist honors over freshman Brin Neumann of Tomah (84) and senior Ally Nickel (87).

Freshman Riley Pechinski (89) tied for fourth, senior Leah Earnest (91) tied for sixth, and junior Megan Bonikowske (105) was 21st for the Panthers.

SPASH will compete in the WIAA Division 1 Sectional at the Stevens Point Country Club at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, where the top two teams will advance to the WIAA Division 1 State Tournament at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14 and 15.
