UWSP jazz band and ensemble to perform

STEVENS POINT –The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of jazz music styles, including big band, blues, funk, Latin and swing, in an Oct. 15 concert, held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point.
The Jazz Band will perform “It Ain’t Necessarily So” by George Gershwin, “Some Skunk Funk” by Randy Brecker, “Hourglass” by Neil Slater, “Conga” by Enrique Garcia and “Señorita Blues” by Les Hooper. The band is directed by Myles Boothroyd, assistant professor of saxophone.
The Jazz Ensemble will perform “For Ones Lost” by Sherisse Rogers, “Backbone” by Thad Jones, “Components” by Thomas Matta, “Picasso” by Ted Nash, “The Bari Things You Do” by Wisconsin native Geoffrey Keezer and an arrangement of “All the Things You Are” by Ken Schaphorst. The ensemble is directed Mathew Buchman, professor and director of Jazz Studies.
