STEVENS POINT – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will celebrate 125 years of milestones in education, alumni successes, community partnerships and Pointer spirit with Homecoming activities the weekend of Oct. 18-19.

“It’s exciting to welcome our Pointer family back to campus as we celebrate our 125th anniversary,” said Laura Gehrman Rottier, director of Alumni Affairs. “Our Homecoming activities have changed through the years, but the connections with alumni and friends have staying power across generations.”

A reception will be held Oct. 17, 4-6 p.m., for “125 Years of Higher Education in Stevens Point,” an Edna Carlsten Gallery exhibit of memorabilia and antiques from throughout UW-Stevens Point’s history. Speakers include Bob Wolensky, professor emeritus of sociology, and Tom Reich, professor and head of acquisitions for the library. The display continues through Oct. 19.

Activities on Oct. 18 include the “Experience the Music of the 20s” music fundraiser at 6 p.m. in the Noel Fine Arts Center , the 2019 Athletic Hall of Fame Awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m., and reunions for swimming and diving teams and Greek organizations.

On Oct. 19, the alumni check-in tent will open at 11 a.m. at Goerke Field on Minnesota Avenue, Stevens Point. The public is invited. This year’s giveaway is a throwback spirit towel featuring UW-Stevens Point’s mascots through the years. Join alumni and friends at the tent for reunions with former faculty members and Greek alumni as well as a celebration of 50 years of study abroad and Albertson Hall.

The Homecoming football game begins at 1 p.m. at Goerke Field. The Pointers will take on the UW-Whitewater Warhawks. For ticket information, call 715-346-4100.

The 125th Pointers Gala will be held Saturday evening at 5 p.m., honoring three Distinguished Alumni Award winners: Judy Goldsmith, ’63; Kathy Kinney, ’16; and Cheryl Schreier, ’79. The Trailblazer Award winners are Jenna, ’10 and Drew Kutcher, ’09, and the Lifetime Achievement Award winners Dennis Peterson, ’78, and Sharon Dehlinger Peterson, ’78. The Mary Ann Nigbor Volunteer of the Year awardees are all the 125K Service Challenge volunteers, and the Theron B. Pray Award winners are Mary and Lon Roberts, ‘70.

Tickets are available through Friday, Oct. 11. For information, go to https://give.uwsp.edu/125-gala.
