STEVENS POINT – Fall leaves pickup will start in the city on Oct. 28. The pickup service offers residents a convenient way to remove leaves and other yard material.
“We will only go through each section of town once,” said Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza. “So it’s important that you have your leaves bagged and on the curbside no later than Monday morning at 7 a.m. They may not get picked up until Wednesday, but if we go through your neighborhood and your leaves aren’t there, we will not come back.”
Wiza noted that residents can still use the city’s drop-off site for yard waste, located just north of the City Garage at 100 Sixth Ave. The city drop-off location is open Tuesday and Thursday, 1-7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., until Dec. 1.
City drop-off hours will change after Dec. 1.
All leaves must be bagged for pickup.
“We’ve got 150 miles of road, so that will be a daunting task,” Wiza said.
Need help raking?
Wiza noted that United Way’s Make-A-Difference Day would be held on Oct. 26. The event, known by some participants as the “Rake-A-Thon,” offers the elderly or individuals with a disability free raking help. Volunteers help rake lawns during the national day of charity.
