Pacelli boys cross country wins CWC Title

The Pacelli Catholic High School boys cross country team won the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) Meet at Marion Thursday, Oct. 17, while Rosholt senior Matthew Ross won the Individual Title in the boys race.

Rosholt seniors Jenna Trzebiatowski and Jordan Zdroik both placed in the Top 5 of the girls race, where Bonduel finished with 46 points to edge Weyauwega-Fremont (51), Rosholt (58) and Amherst (62) for the Conference Title.

Ross finished in 18:03.6 to win the boys race over Pacelli freshman Gabe Hoerter (18:06.1) and give Rosholt the boys Individual CWC Champion for the third year in a row, after Adam Rzentkowski won back-to-back CWC Titles in 2017 and 2018.

Junior Jay Engebretson also placed fifth for 14th-ranked Pacelli, followed by freshman Adam Eiden (10th), junior Sam Grywacz (12th), sophomore Ben Haemmerle (24th), junior Jacob Zimmerman (59th) and senior Mitchell Jensen (74th), as the Cardinals finished with 52 points to win the Conference Title over Wittenberg-Birnamwood (61), Bonduel (82) and Rosholt (91).

Along with Ross, junior Nathan Kropidlowski placed seventh for the Rosholt boys, followed by junior Anthony Bianco (17th), sophomore Marcus Stalter (33rd), junior Conner McKay (35th), junior Sam Trzebiatowski (43rd) and freshman Jon Rutta (45th).

The Amherst boys finished seventh with 211 points, as senior Kyle Young placed eighth, followed by sophomore Noah Barz (49th), freshman Otto Boelk (50th), freshman Aiden Nelson (54th), junior Johnny Ballinger (60th), freshman Blaise Andrich (63rd), freshman Dane Melby (71st) and sophomore Ben Lee (73rd).

In the girls race, Jenna Trzebiatowski finished third in 21:43.6 behind Weyauwega-Fremont sophomore Abby Bartel (20:02.1) and Bonduel junior Kara Troxel (21:26.1).

Zdroik was fifth for the Hornets, followed by freshman Sydney Trzebiatowski (18th), junior Amber Studzinski (21st), junior Macey Check (30th), junior Logan Krogwold (32nd) and junior Maddy Simonis (37th).

Sophomore Dylan Werachowski finished eighth to lead the fourth-place Amherst girls, followed by sophomore Revyn Abbot-Beversdorf (13th), junior Kate Omernik (14th), sophomore Samantha Anglemyer (25th), freshman Abby Rieck (26th), sophomore Bailey Maxwell (27th) and sophomore Nicole Eiden (29th).

Senior Katy Czerwinski finished 33rd and senior Anika Brandl was 53rd for the Pacelli girls cross country team.

The Rosholt girls will look to advance to the WIAA Division 3 State Meet for the fourth year in a row, while the Amherst girls will try to qualify for state for the first time since 2015, when they compete at the Athens Sectional at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

The teams that finish first and second at the Sectional will earn a trip to the WIAA Division 3 State Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday, Nov. 2, while the Athens Sectional also includes sixth-ranked Auburndale, 10th-ranked Marathon and 16th-ranked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption for the girls.

The reigning WIAA Division 3 State Runner-up Rosholt boys cross country team has advanced to state five years in a row and nine times in the last 10 years, and will vie for a trip to state at the Athens Sectional at 4:45 p.m. Friday along with 13th-ranked Athens and 14th-ranked Pacelli, which will look to advance to the WIAA State Meet for the first time as a team.
